Introduction
Wilderness Trail Distillery was founded in 2012 by Shane Baker and Pat Heist, experts in yeast cultivation and fermentation. The distillery began operations in Danville, Kentucky in 2013 before moving to a larger 163-acre campus in Boyle County in 2015, restoring the historic Willis Grimes House for their offices.
In 2018, Wilderness Trail released its first two expressions – a Kentucky Straight Bourbon and a Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey. The distillery became the 18th official stop on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail in 2020. In 2022, the Campari Group acquired a 70% stake in Wilderness Trail Distillery for $420 million, signaling the brand’s significant growth potential.
Wilderness Trail is known for its high-quality, science-driven bourbon and rye whiskey products, including a wheated bourbon, a high-rye bourbon, and a cask strength single barrel bourbon. The distillery utilizes a sweet mash fermentation process and bottles all of its whiskeys as bottled-in-bond expressions aged for 5-7 years.
